FWGA President’s Message for April- Pace of Play

Spring is here – It is time to brush the cobwebs off your clubs, get out and play more golf!

FWGA prides itself in the fact that our members are fully aware of Pace of Play etiquette. In honor of that, here are a few tips and ideas to remind us how to help keep your group in a round under 4-5 hours.

PLAY READY GOLF

  • Tee off as soon as the group ahead is safely out of way
  • Carry tees, two ball markers, a ball mark repair tool and extra ball in your pocket
  • Watch your partners shots, be ready to help direct them if they lose sight of their ball
  • Use the time spent getting to your ball to think about your next shot – yardage and club selection
  • If sharing a cart, drop the first person off at his ball, drive on ahead to the second ball.
  • The first player – take 3 clubs (the one you think is the right choice, one shorter and one longer)
  • On the green – begin lining up your putt and reading the break as soon as you reach the green. Opt to putt out instead of marking the ball when you have a short putt.
  • Complete your scorecard at the next tee box.
  • Limit your practice swings
  • Keeping pace means watching the group in front of you and keeping within one shot or half a hole of them.

Please remember to cooperate with marshals and starters. They are there to help you.  Respect your playing partners also. If they request you speed up or advise you of the rules of golf, try to accommodate without making the round uncomfortable for you or the person who asked.

The complete list of Pace of Play tips and Care for the Course can be found on the Forewomengolf.org website.

Have fun and enjoy your golf! Liz Riddle, President
