Oh my, its January 1, my head is spinning from all the fun. As I woke this morning begging for coffee, I spied the last piece of holiday toffee. Sitting at the computer on this holiday, happy, I’m not a commuter! Reflecting on the year just past and wondering how to make this one better than last. I ask myself these questions, pondering with reflection. Will I resolve to lose a few pounds, or vow to play more rounds? Maybe combine the two and walk more courses rather than a few. Shall I buy a new set of clubs, or stop blaming my current set for all my flubs? Upgrade my wardrobe, buy new shoes, or take more lessons to correct my putting blues? No matter the decision, no matter the goal, FWGA is in my heart and soul. Happy New Year to all!
We have some fabulous events planned for 2014. Thirteen tournaments which include two 9-hole events and two invitational tournaments. The first invitational event will be held at Saddle Creek in Copperopolis on 4/26 and Greenhorn Creek in Angel’s Camp on 4/27. These invitational events are an opportunity to play these great courses and bring a friend, spouse or partner. The second invitational event will be held in the Monterey area beginning with San Juan Oaks in Hollister on 9/13, Pasadera Country Club in Monterey on 9/14 and rounding out the weekend with the newly remodeled Poppy Hills. Liz Riddle has done a great job in scheduling these events, and if you have never been to an away event, they are a blast and a great option for a golf vacation. If you can’t make it to an away event, sign up for another tournament or casual play date.
In March, we will conduct our general meeting. This gathering kicks off the season and provides membership with helpful information for the years’ events, casual golfing opportunities, and charities supported in 2014. Tee times will be arranged for those wanting to play after the meeting. If you are new to the club or, have never attended the general meeting, this is a great venue to meet fellow members and learn more about FWGA.
Lastly, all members are welcome to join in on the events, and please remember that this organization runs on volunteers and we need you. Sign up to host a play date, or co-direct a tournament. There are many of us who have directed a tournament in the past, and would be happy to lend support for anyone new to this process. We also need assistance at our main meeting events such as the Annual event in October and the Holiday party in December.
Any of your time is appreciated and welcomed. You may contact Liz Riddle if you wish to assist in directing/ co-directing or assisting in registration or pictures for a tournament. Contact Duayna Pucci for assisting in the General Meeting, Annual Event or Holiday Party.
Happy New Year,
Della Gutierrez
