A Party to Remember – 2012 FWGA Annual!

Girls do want to have fun and did we have fun.  I have to say to finally get to play in our Annual was exciting.  My team, Kathleen Clancy, Robin Dozier, Careen Carter, were a blast and we laughed our way around the course.  The morning started with the pre round festivities – 4 hole putting contest, Cart Decorating Contest and Costume contest.

Piper Shaull hosted the Putting Contest that Dublin Ranch set up for us.  Sally  Panella had a hole in one for a final score of 8 and Denise Qualls had a score of 8.

Rita Steele and Tina Higashi, Past FWGA Presidents, judged the Cart and Costume Contest.  Sue Derby, Pat Charles, Joan McCarthy and Lucy Subica won the cart decorating contest with their great Silent Auction Shopping carts.

Sally Panella, Betty McCabe, Alice Schultz and Bev Redfield won for
their great costumes.  And I have to say they did play in the
costumes the entire round – we were right behind them.

One of the highlights of the round was hearing that Charlene Hastings had a hole in one on Hole 13, 130 yards with her 8 iron.

It was fun seeing them celebrate as they played.  One of my favorite things about Dublin Ranch is the ability to see other foursomes as you play.  Made for quite a party atomsphere as you heard cheering and laughing all around the course.

The format for the day is a scramble and everyone has to contribute to your teams score.  I had alot of fun with my team showing them some of the strategy.  When to use a mulligan or a hand grenade is very important and we used ours well. The field was divided into 3 flights.DSC_0045

In the first flight the winning team was Gooch Foster, CharlotteMcconkie, Karen Smith and LInda Dobb, and 2nd place went to April Kenyon, Pam Koch, Charlene Hastings and Denise Qualls.

and Careen Carter.DSC_0038

As part of our Annual we also give out a variety of awards to our members.  Our Most Improved Player of the Year was Meg Walsh who dropped her index from 34.5 to 24.3.  She attributed her success to being the Board Member responsible for our Emerging Golfers Group and “getting back to the basics!”

We also honored our Member of the Year.  This is the person that we feels represents FWGA on the golf course within our club and in other golf events.  Michelle Ross was honored with this.  As a low handicapper she always plays with anyone and is a joy to play with as well as representing FWGA in a number of NCGA golf events and doing very well.

We recognized 2 Volunteers of the Year.  Sarah Good was honored for her assistance in negotiating lower tournament fees and teaching us the lesson to always negotiate.  Della Gutierrez was recognized as Volunteer as the Year.  Having chaired tournaments for 2 years she works consistently on the day to day running of our tournaments including the challenge of pairings and listening to everyone requests!  Thanks to both of you for your time given to FWGA!

One of the most exciting announcements of the evening though is our Club Champion and Players Champion.  Piper Shaull announced that the change in the Club Championship program went well and the Club Champion was Julie Campiotti and the Players Champion was Della Gutierrez.  Thanks to everyone who participated and look forward to having everyone sign up next year.  As a new addition to the Tournament Program we had a Birdie Board going.   Everyone who got a Birdie during a tournament was listed on the board and at the end of the season the person with most Birdies recieved an award.  Kristina Ramos was very excited to be the Birdie Winner!

Each of these members recieved an FWGA bag tag.

Image002So be sure and stay tuned to see how you could earn one of these great bag tags in 2013. Renewal for next year has started.   Be sure to mark your calendar for March 9 at Boundary Oaks.  This is always a great kick off event to find out what is happening in the coming year.

A big part of the evening is our Silent Auction and Raffle.  Many great items were offered up for
silent auction and raffle in support of our charities.  We will announce the amount raised this year and  make our donations at our Holiday Brunch on December 8, at Round Hill Country Club.  Be sure to sign up now.

All in all it was a great day and lots of fun.  As people came in from their round many watched the Giants game, visited with friends and watched their silent auction items.

Mark your calendar for next year.  The plan is to have it October 13 at Dublin Ranch.  Our Events Chair Sue Derby and Chairities Chair Kathleen Clancy would love to have your help in making this another great event.
