18 Hole Tournament – By Kristina Ramos

Cooler bayside conditions provided a respite from inland heat as an intimate group of  golfers teed it up on August 19 at Monarch Bay’s Tony Lema course.   The eleven ladies were the 18-hole contestants in FWGA’s second combined 9 and 18 hole tournament of the season.  The format was two person better ball, and several teams went impressively low.  First place honors went to Kelly Tague and her partner, Blind Draw, who was ultimately revealed to be Sarah Good.  Their score of 60 vaulted them past the second place team of Sandy Gonzalez and Liz Riddle who carded a cool 62.  Rounding out the team prizes were Della Gutierrez and Charlene Hastings with a score of 66, good enough to grab the third place prize.

Two closest to the pin awards were up for grabs, but only one was claimed, as the green at hole number 4 eluded being hit despite the ladies’ best efforts.  But hole number 17 was no match for Tami Waddell, whose tee shot landed 8 feet, 3 inches from the hole, the closest of the day.

Sandy Gonzalez’s birdie on the fourteenth hole earned her another notch on FWGA’s season-long Birdie Board competition.
